Role Description
The role is within the Infrastructure Government and Healthcare (IGH) IT Advisory team. The team currently consists of approximately 115 staff across the UK and is continuing to grow. Our clients are drawn from a number of industry segments including the Public Sector, Real Estate, Construction, Utilities and Transport, but primarily focus on the Public Sector.
We are seeing strong growth in our Public Sector Advisory business. The key focus of this role will be defining and taking technology advice to clients in one of our key marketplaces: Local and Regional Government. This vacancy offers an opportunity for successful candidates to join this growing team at a senior role.
Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of this role are to package, develop and deliver our IT advisory services to our clients, in this, one of our key marketplaces. The individual will be expected to also contribute to developing our propositions and capabilities in one or more of our solution groups (IT Strategy and Performance; Projects and Programmes; ERP Advisory; Security, Privacy and Continuity; Business Intelligence; or IT Assurance).
Specifically the role has these key facets:
-Supports business development via the creation and development of relationships with senior IT client staff, at the Regional, Unitary and Metropolitan Borough authorities.
-Supporting development of new service offerings to improve market penetration and client uptake.
- Delivery of services to clients and management of engagement teams.
- To grow the IT advisory capability within our team by knowledge transfer, coaching staff and contributing to development of methodologies.
Executive Advisors are primarily responsible for delivering assignments. This includes engaging with clients and managing small teams to scope, design and deliver effective solutions. They need to be able to work client-side at senior manager level, supporting them in the management of System Integrators (SIs), Local Service Provider (LSP) and other vendors, as well as providing them with insight into the regulatory, legislative, governance and funding environment found in our Local Government clients.
In addition executive advisors will support the KPMG senior management team to identify and convert business opportunities with both internal and external clients, delivering good understanding, experience and creative skills to solve the business and technology issues faced by the Local Government Market, while maintaining independence from the IT solutions (and providers).
Role Requirements
The Individual:
The person will be an experienced advisor, adept at using their deep technical knowledge to solve business issues, along with outstanding persuasive and communication abilities. They will have a strong, demonstrable business background within the Local and Regional Government sector.
They will have a track record in working at a CIO level at an authority or an equivalent senior position within the sector. As part of this, successful candidates will be experienced working at a Board level, demonstrating strong business and relationship development experience and excellent proposal and report writing skills. All candidates will need to demonstrate strong written, presentation and verbal communication skills. Successful candidates will be commercially aware and financially numerate and are likely to have graduate level qualifications.
Overall, the individual will be passionate and extremely knowledgeable about the Local and Regional Government market place and the opportunities that exist to exploit technology to increase efficiency in the next five years. The individual will have the drive and enthusiasm to deliver across the whole range of IT Advisory offerings.
Skills:
- Excellent understanding of the Local and Regional Government industry and the business issues currently facing clients in this sector
- Experience of working at the CIO level.
- Knowledge and experience of utilising IT to improve efficiencies, reduce costs, or improve effectiveness of delivery within the Local and Regional Government sector.
- Knowledge and experience of fundamentally improving performance of an IT function either through implementing a wide ranging ERP (SAP) or an equivalent transformational project.
- Existing relationships and good reputation in target marketplace.
- Worked, presenting and persuading at the Board level with senior stakeholders.
- Knowledge and understanding of the assessment of existing sourcing arrangements.
- Should be financially numerate and experienced in use of business cases.
- Knowledgeable with understanding of the IT supplier marketplace including the development of business models of major IT sourcing suppliers.
- Commercially aware with an excellent understanding of the commercial considerations, commercial frameworks and contractual arrangements for IT sourcing arrangements. Should also be able to demonstrate that they have an interest and capability in IT performance, strategy and business change and can operate beyond the purely IT sourcing advisory context.
Highly desirable:
- Held accountability for delivery of IT services.
- Able to identify and deliver business opportunities in clients.
- Previous experience of the delivery and management of advisory or consultancy services.
